In a Thanksgiving Day update, Al Roker is sharing videos and pictures from the hospital as he continues to recover.
And also some great news! He’s getting to leave the hospital after spending several days under the care of medical professionals for blood clots that traveled from his legs into his lungs.
Al Roker Shares Thanksgiving Day Update As His Today Show Co-Anchors Carry On the Parade Without Him
“Alright, this is my version of the Thanksgiving Day parade. Getting ready to leave the hospital, time to blow this taco stand! Woohoo!” Roker said in a video he shared just an hour ago showing him walking the halls of the hospital.
“Yay Al!!!! Love love this video!!! Parade was not the same without YOU!!!” Hoda Kotb wrote in the comments! “Yasss!! Now we are especially thankful for you too!!! And all those doctors and nurses who took care of our dear one!” Jenna Bush Hager added.
Al went on to share a second photo of him with his thumbs up in front of the TV at home, watching his co-workers carry on the tradition without him. “Back home in time to catch a little bit of the #macysthanksgivingdayparade Missing being next to @savannahguthrie and @hodakotb.”
This is Al Roker’s first time in 27 years to miss co-anchoring the parade. And he was definitely missed.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, many have been well aware of Al Roker’s recent absents from the normal Today Show cast for the last two weeks and now the world knows why he’s been away from the cameras.
According to a statement he released on his personal Instagram page on Friday, Roker revealed he had a recent health scare that landed him in the hospital. Alongside a picture of a bouquet of flowers, Roker shared a few more details.
“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been,” Roker began. “Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs.”

“After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. Have a great weekend, everyone.”
Roker didn’t reveal when he will be back with the Today Show or if he will reprise one of his beloved roles for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Many of his Today Show colleagues took to the comments section of his post to wish him a speedy recovery.
Hoda Kotb wrote, “Al Roker– hurry back to us… counting the days xoxoxo.” And Jenna Bush Hager added, “Love you Al! Hurry home. You are missed and loved beyond measure!”
Dylan Dryer said, “Love you Al and praying every day for a speedy recovery!” And Craig Melvin wrote, “Love you brother…can’t wait to have you back!”
And Savannah Guthrie said, “You’re the strongest person we know. We miss you and will see you soon!!”
